SAN JOSE, LOWRIDER DAY 2026

San Jose Lowrider Day brings together cars, culture and community in the heart of downtown San Jose.

The annual celebration fills Santa Clara Street outside City Hall with lowriders, custom cars, music, families and car clubs—honoring a culture with deep roots in the city.

The 2026 celebration once again transformed downtown into a showcase of craftsmanship and personal expression, while recognizing the generations of people who have helped make lowriding part of San Jose's identity.

A City With Lowriding in Its DNA

San Jose has played an important role in the development of American lowrider culture. Story and King Roads became a legendary cruising destination, while San Jose also became home to innovations in hydraulics, influential car clubs and an entire ecosystem of artists, builders and enthusiasts.

FROM CRUISING TO CELEBRATION

For decades, cruising in San Jose was restricted by a city ordinance that became a point of contention within the lowrider community. In 2022, San Jose repealed its cruising ban, marking a major change in the city's relationship with a culture that had long called these streets home.

Today, Lowrider Day takes place directly in front of San Jose City Hall. Cars and a community once associated with cruising restrictions now fill the city's civic center as part of an officially recognized celebration of San Jose culture.

LOW & SLOW

From immaculate paint, chrome wire wheels, custom interiors and carefully considered details, every car brings its own personality to the street. Together, they turn downtown San Jose into a rolling art gallery of color, craftsmanship and individual expression.

THE DETAILS

Lowriding has always been about more than the vehicle itself. Paint, upholstery, wheels, chrome, hydraulics and countless small details become opportunities for creativity and personal expression.

That craftsmanship extends beyond automobiles as well, with the same influences appearing in custom bicycles, fashion, music and art.

MORE THAN THE CARS

The celebration extends far beyond what's parked along Santa Clara Street. Live music, local vendors, families, photographers, artists and longtime members of the lowrider community turn the event into something much larger than a traditional car show.

It's that combination of cars and people that gives Lowrider Day its character—and keeps the culture connected to the community that created it.

Lowrider Day is a celebration of machines,

but its story is ultimately about people.

Generations of builders, artists, families and car clubs have kept San José's lowrider culture moving forward—preserving its history while continuing to reinvent it.
